KL Rahul Trolls Kevin Pietersen Over Mid-Season Maldives Vacation, Pieterson Hits Back with Hilarious Reply, See Video!

April 19, 2025: Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen found himself at the receiving end of a light-hearted jibe from senior Indian batter KL Rahul, and his witty comeback has now gone viral across social media.

The playful exchange took place ahead of DC’s match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. During a practice session on April 18, DC captain Shubman Gill was seen catching up with Pietersen, when Rahul, known for his dry humor, couldn’t resist pulling the Englishman’s leg.

As Pietersen greeted Gill with, “Hello, how are you brother? What’s happening?”, Gill replied, “It’s been so long. Enjoying it?” That’s when Rahul jumped in with the cheeky comment, “A mentor is someone who goes to the Maldives for two weeks mid-season (smiles).”

DC later posted the clip on their social media platforms, with the caption: “Thanks KL, now we know what a mentor does.” The video instantly went viral, with fans loving the banter between the cricketers.

Though Pietersen remained quiet during the moment on the field, he later took to the comments section of the video to respond — and did so in style. In classic KP fashion, his reply was dripping with humor and sarcasm:

“The wise and sagacious guide of a cricket team who, through a mysterious blend of tactical genius and holiday planning, ensures the team is as adept at swinging bats as they are at swinging in hammocks. Known for the rare ability to teach the art of the perfect switch-hit and the secret to finding the best vacation deals during mid-season breaks. Often spotted with a clipboard in one hand and a travel brochure in the other. cc @klrahul.”

The comment left fans in splits, with many appreciating the camaraderie between the players and how it reflects the fun, relaxed vibe of the IPL behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul continues to shine with the bat for Delhi Capitals this season. He is currently the franchise’s top scorer, amassing 238 runs from five innings at an average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 154.54. His standout performance came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he smashed an unbeaten 93 in a successful run chase at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

DC are set to face GT in their seventh match of the season. Historically, Delhi has had the upper hand over Gujarat, winning three of their previous meetings. Interestingly, GT have never beaten DC at home, and the last time the two sides clashed in Ahmedabad, DC bowled out the Titans for a paltry 89.

With the team clicking on and off the field — and the banter game strong — Delhi Capitals will be hoping to continue their winning run.
