'Last Stage..': MS Dhoni Hints At IPL Future During CSK vs GT Toss
May 25, 2025: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni may have just dropped the strongest hint yet that the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season could be his final one. During the toss at Sunday’s match against Gujarat Titans (GT), the legendary cricketer made a rare admission about his physical struggles, sparking fresh retirement speculation.

Dhoni, who won the toss and opted to bat first, was asked by commentator Ravi Shastri about his current form and fitness. While Shastri didn’t directly ask about retirement, Dhoni volunteered a revealing comment:
“My body is surviving. Every year is a new challenge. It needs a lot of maintenance. It is the last stage of my career.”
Though he stopped short of confirming that this would be his final IPL season, the 43-year-old CSK skipper made it clear that the demands of the game are taking a toll.
“Didn’t trouble me enough when I was playing international cricket,” he added, acknowledging how his physical condition has changed since his India days.
CSK, currently at the bottom of the points table, fielded a slightly shuffled squad, bringing in Deepak Hooda for Ravichandran Ashwin. Despite their standing, Dhoni stressed the importance of enjoying the game.
“We are last in the table, we will still remain last, win or lose. Need to enjoy our cricket,” he said.
Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, are aiming for a top-two finish in the playoffs and will be under pressure to deliver. CSK, meanwhile, will look to give their young players more exposure and potentially give their iconic leader a memorable send-off, should this truly be his final season.
The match — possibly Dhoni’s last outing in yellow — carries emotional weight for millions of fans, with speculation now swirling around whether they are witnessing the final chapter in the story of one of India’s most beloved cricketers.
