Lloyd Tennant Appointed Head Coach of Ireland Women’s Cricket Team
May 2, 2025: Cricket Ireland has named seasoned English coach Lloyd Tennant as the new Head Coach of the Ireland Women’s national cricket team, starting June 1. He takes over from Ed Joyce, who stepped down after nearly six impactful years at the helm.
Tennant’s appointment comes following Ireland’s unsuccessful bid to qualify for the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in India, marking the end of Joyce’s tenure. With over 30 years of experience in coaching and player development, Tennant brings a wealth of expertise to a team poised for growth.
A Level 4 ECB-qualified coach, Tennant previously led Central Sparks and has held pivotal roles in both men’s and women’s cricket, including stints with the ECB Female Academy, Manchester Originals, and the ECB Male Under-19 programme. His robust background in talent management and high-performance development makes him a strong fit for Ireland’s youthful and evolving squad.
“I’m very excited about this new role—it’s such a great time to be involved in women’s cricket,” said Tennant in a statement. “This Ireland Women’s squad has moved forward enormously under Ed Joyce, and I want to continue that progress.”
Cricket Ireland’s High Performance Director Graeme West hailed Tennant as a “perfect fit,” citing his dual experience in coaching and player education. “His deep understanding of the challenges young players face, especially those juggling academics and elite sports, will be invaluable,” West stated.
Tennant’s first series in charge will be a home white-ball tour against Zimbabwe in July, featuring three T20Is and two ODIs, followed by three T20Is against Pakistan in August.
