‘Mindset Has Not Changed’: Rohit Sharma Reflects On 15 Years With Mumbai Indians

March 29, 2025: Rohit Sharma, the captain who led Mumbai Indians (MI) to five IPL titles, recently shared his thoughts on his 15-year journey with the franchise, acknowledging the many changes over the years but emphasizing that his approach and mindset have remained constant.

In a video posted by Mumbai Indians on their X handle, Sharma reflected on his evolution as a cricketer. “Obviously, since the time I started to now, things, a lot of things have changed… I used to bat middle order then. Now I’m opening the batting. I was captain then, I’m not the captain now. There were few teammates who I played with and won championships. They are not there. They are in the coaching role now,” he said. Despite these shifts, Sharma reiterated that his mindset had stayed the same.

For Rohit, the core philosophy of Mumbai Indians has always been about winning. “What I want to do for this team has not changed, which is to go out there and win games and win trophies. That is what MI is known for,” he added. He highlighted the team’s ability to win games from impossible situations, a hallmark of MI’s legacy. “Over the years, we’ve won games from situations no one ever believed in. That is MI, and that is what Mumbai is known for… Those things have never changed,” he said.

Sharma also pointed to the consistency in the way MI treats its players. “When you reach your room, the day you report, everything will be laid out as it was in 2011. Your kit bag, your suitcase with all the jerseys, and other necessary things. Those things have not changed in the last 15 years that I’ve been here, and I don’t think they ever will,” he said, emphasizing the team’s constant welcoming atmosphere.

Another key feature for Rohit is the team environment, especially the dressing room culture. “The way the team room has been shaped, with everyone’s name and jersey number, those important phrases as well in the team room, those things have never changed,” he concluded.

Rohit Sharma’s leadership has been pivotal to MI’s success, with five IPL titles under his captaincy. His unwavering focus on winning, combined with the franchise’s consistent values, has ensured that MI remains one of the most successful teams in IPL history.
