Mohammed Shami’s Sister, Brother-in-Law Found Registered Under MNREGA in UP: Report

A report claims the Indian pacer’s sister Shabina and her husband have been receiving wages under the rural employment scheme in Amroha district from 2021 to 2024.

Amroha, Uttar Pradesh | March 26, 2025:
In a surprising development, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s sister, Shabina, and her husband have reportedly been registered as workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district. According to ABP News, official records show that Shabina has been receiving wages under the rural employment welfare scheme from 2021 to 2024.

While the report includes documentation of Shabina’s registration, there has been no official comment from Shami or his family on the matter so far.

MGNREGA, a flagship government scheme, provides a guaranteed 100 days of wage employment per year to rural households whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work. The news has sparked curiosity about the socio-economic status of Shami’s extended family, although there is no indication of any misuse of the scheme.

Shami’s Recent Cricket Form

This news surfaces on the heels of Shami’s outing in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai, where he registered one of his most expensive bowling figures in the tournament’s history.

Despite being India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in the competition, Shami conceded 74 runs in 9 overs in the final, picking just one wicket. This performance marked the second-most runs conceded by an Indian in a Champions Trophy match, trailing only Umesh Yadav’s 2/75 against South Africa in 2013.

Overall, Shami finished the tournament with 9 wickets in 5 matches, averaging 25.88. He shared the top wicket-taker spot for India with mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who took the same number of wickets in just 3 games, boasting a stellar average of 15.11.

The story is still developing, and further clarity is awaited from the cricketer’s side regarding the MNREGA report.
