No Gambhir, Team Presser to Be Addressed by Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar to address the media as BCCI unveils the squad and its new 10-point policy to promote discipline.

January 18, 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to reveal Team India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against England and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on January 18. Captain Rohit Sharma and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar will address the media in Mumbai on Saturday at 12:30 PM following the squad announcement. However, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir will not be part of the press conference.

Official Statement

“The Men’s Selection Committee will select India’s squad for the IDFC First Bank ODI series against England and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tomorrow in Mumbai. The Selection Meeting will be followed by a press conference,” read the BCCI statement.

BCCI’s New 10-Point Policy

In addition to the squad announcement, the BCCI has recently introduced a 10-point policy aimed at promoting discipline and unity within the team. The new guidelines make participation in domestic cricket mandatory, restrict the presence of families and personal staff on tours, and prohibit individual commercial endorsements during ongoing series.

Upcoming Fixtures

India’s cricketing calendar is packed, with a five-match T20I series against England set to kick off on January 22 in Kolkata. The series will proceed with matches in Chennai (January 25), Rajkot (January 28), Pune (January 31), and conclude in Mumbai on February 2.

The three-match ODI series against England will begin on February 6.

Champions Trophy Schedule

The much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will take place from February 19 to March 9. Hosted by Pakistan and the UAE under a hybrid model, the tournament will feature 15 matches across the two nations. India will play all their matches in the UAE.

India is grouped with Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh in Group A, with their campaign opener against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. The high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan is scheduled for February 23, also in Dubai. India’s last league game will be against New Zealand on March 2.

Tournament Format

The Champions Trophy will feature eight teams divided into two groups. Group A includes defending champions Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B comprises World Cup winners Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
