"Our Kids Don't Know...": Captain Mohammad Rizwan's Candid Take On Pakistan’s Unpredictability In Cricket
February 13, 2025: Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has given a blunt response when questioned about the team’s unpredictable nature, attributing it to the country’s culture. Speaking after leading Pakistan’s highest successful ODI chase of 353 runs against South Africa, Rizwan did not shy away from addressing the unpredictability associated with Pakistan cricket.
The star wicketkeeper-batter played a captain’s knock, remaining unbeaten at 122, while vice-captain Salman Ali Agha registered his maiden ODI century (134). Together, they stitched a historic 260-run partnership, rescuing Pakistan from a shaky 91/3 to a commanding victory in 49 overs. Their stand became the second-biggest ODI partnership for the 4th wicket in history, breaking Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik’s record of 206 runs.
During the post-match press conference, Rizwan was asked why Pakistan is often labeled “unpredictable” in cricket. His response was refreshingly honest:

“The answer to this is very long, but the unpredictability factor mainly comes from our culture. Our kids don’t even know what to do in life. Whether it’s Australia, Zimbabwe, or today, we always have this unpredictability. It’s rare that we win one-sided games. It’s not just our cricket—our entire culture has been like this. Even our kids’ futures are unpredictable,” Rizwan stated.
His remarks sparked discussions on Pakistan’s cricketing approach, with many fans and experts appreciating his candid analysis.
Rizwan credited divine intervention and team strategy for Pakistan’s stunning chase against South Africa.
“When God helps, you break all kinds of records. We gave our full effort. We aimed to restrict them to 320, but Klaasen took them to 350. When we were going back after the first innings, Khushdil (Shah) reminded us that we had chased 350 before. Those words were inspiring.”
Rizwan revealed that he and Agha set small target milestones every five overs, which played a crucial role in keeping them focused throughout the chase.
“We failed to achieve it a couple of times but mostly did. Our fielding still needs improvement, but hopefully, we’ll work on it. That’s how champion teams play,” he added.
After this thrilling victory, Pakistan will now face New Zealand in the tri-series final on Friday. With New Zealand winning their first encounter against Pakistan, the Men in Green will be eager to settle scores and lift the trophy.
Can Rizwan’s leadership take Pakistan to a title-winning finish? Fans are eagerly waiting for the grand showdown!
