‘Paaji, Hum Kuch Plan Kar Rahe Hai’: Sachin Tendulkar Reminisces Emotional Farewell During BCCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award Speech

February 2, 2025: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was honoured with the prestigious CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI’s Naman Awards in Mumbai on Saturday. The accolade was presented by ICC Chairman Jay Shah, celebrating Tendulkar’s unparalleled contributions to cricket over a career spanning three decades.

Tendulkar’s Memorable Farewell

Reflecting on his emotional farewell in November 2013 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where he played his final international match against the West Indies, Tendulkar shared a heartfelt anecdote involving former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

“During my last match, Dhoni came to me and said, ‘Paaji, aap thoda dur raho, hum kuch plan kar rahe hai.’ I didn’t know what was happening, but then the team gave me a guard of honour. That moment hit me hard, realizing that I’d never walk onto the field again as a current Indian player,” Tendulkar recalled.

The iconic cricketer added, “Those moments aren’t planned; they’re divine. Looking back, I feel incredibly lucky. The send-off was a testament to the camaraderie we shared as a team.”

  • ODI Runs: 18,426
  • Appearances: Most Test matches (200) and ODIs (463).

He made his international debut at just 16 years old during India’s 1989 tour of Pakistan and remains an enduring symbol of cricketing excellence.

During his acceptance speech, Tendulkar offered invaluable advice to current cricketers:
“Cricket is the ultimate gift of my life. Value every moment on the field and never lose grip over your game. Distractions will come, but don’t let them derail your career. Focus, stay humble, and always remember the responsibility you carry for the game and the nation.”
