Pakistan Cricketers Urged to Return Mid-Tour After Embarrassing NZ Defeat: “They Have Betrayed Us”

After yet another disappointing series performance, former cricketer Basit Ali lashes out at Pakistan’s top order, calls for team to return home before final ODI.

Pakistan cricket finds itself in the eye of a storm yet again as their abysmal run continues during their ongoing tour of New Zealand. After a winless Champions Trophy campaign at home, the Men in Green were expected to bounce back in the white-ball series under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha. Instead, they have been humiliated by a depleted New Zealand side missing several key players due to IPL commitments.

The visitors lost the five-match T20I series 1-4 and have already conceded the three-match ODI series 0-2. In the second ODI, Pakistan slumped to 208 all out while chasing 292, despite late resistance from Faheem Ashraf (73) and Naseem Shah (51), losing by 84 runs.

Basit Ali’s Explosive Criticism

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali, in a fiery YouTube rant, labelled the team’s performance a “betrayal” and mocked the top-order batters by sarcastically calling them “Bradmans.”

“Pakistan team has betrayed us. I don’t know what era of cricket we are playing. This is not a Pakistan team,” he said.

Basit didn’t hold back while addressing the humiliating batting display, where six of Pakistan’s top seven batters were dismissed for single-digit scores. He further added:

“The Bradmans from one to six were all out for nothing. Instead of playing the third ODI, Pakistan should say, ‘You win, let us go home, we are homesick.’”

Statistical Low Point

  • Babar Azam: 1
  • Mohammad Rizwan: 5
  • Imam-ul-Haq: 3
  • Abdullah Shafique: 1
  • Salman Agha (captain): 9
  • Tayyab Tahir: 13

The only saving grace came from the lower order, where Faheem and Naseem stitched a face-saving stand. Still, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Kiwis from sealing the series with one game to go.

What’s Next for Pakistan?

With the third and final ODI to be played on Saturday at Bay Oval, Pakistan will be desperate to avoid a clean sweep. But questions loom over team morale, leadership, and long-term direction — all of which have come under heavy public and media scrutiny.
