Pat Cummins, Deepti Sharma win December honours: ICC Player of the Month Awards

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, is named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for his outstanding bowling during the Test victory against Pakistan. Meanwhile, an announcement from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday stated that Deepti Sharma of India had earned the inaugural ICC Women’s Player of the Month award because of her multi-format prowess against Australia and England. ICC revealed the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month award winners for December 2023 after shortlists were announced last week. Pat Cummins wins the December ICC Men’s Player of the Month title, capping an incredible 2023. This comes after he bowls brilliantly in his team’s winning Test series against Pakistan.

However, Deepti Sharma won her first ICC Women’s Player of the Month award after India defeated formidable opponents in England and Australia thanks to her outstanding batting and bowling in all three forms. With his leadership and bowling prowess, Cummins was instrumental in Australia’s Test victory over Pakistan in December 2023. Australia had already won their sixth Men’s Cricket World Cup earlier in the year and their maiden World Test Championship.

“The group has had a fantastic year in all formats, and finishing 2023 with a strong showing against a formidable Pakistani team was a great way to cap it off.” As stated by the ICC, Cummins stated, “Overall, we are really happy with the summer so far and looking forward to the West Indies and New Zealand series.”
“It’s an honor to be voted the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for December,” Deepti stated in the meantime. Right now, I’m happy with how my game is playing, and I think it showed in my performances for India against formidable opposition last month. I’m going to keep working hard to make sure I have more experiences like this in the future.”

“I’m honored to have received this award, and it’s even more meaningful because fans all over the world cast their votes for me. She said, “I want to thank them and my teammates for making it possible for me to earn this award. In order to win the December award, Cummins defeated fellow Test stars Taijul Islam of Bangladesh and Glenn Phillips of New Zealand, while Sharma defeated colleague Jemimah Rodrigues and Zimbabwe’s Precious Marange.
