Rohit-Rinku breaks highest fifth-wicket partnership record

In the third T20I against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh set a new record for the highest fifth-wicket partnership in T20Is. The duo came together with India struggling at 22/4 and went on to add an impressive 190 runs. Rohit, the Indian captain, scored a blistering 121 off 69 balls, including 11 fours and eight sixes. Rinku complemented him with an unbeaten 69 from 39 deliveries, hitting two fours and six sixes.

Their partnership surpassed the previous T20I record for the fifth wicket or lower, which was 145 runs by Nepal’s Deependra Airee and Kushal Malla against Hong Kong. Additionally, Rohit and Rinku’s stand is now the highest for any wicket for India in T20Is, beating the 176-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda against Ireland in 2022.

The match saw India triumph over Afghanistan by 11 runs, concluded by two super overs. Rohit’s century-earning innings fetched him the Player of the Match award, while Shivam Dube was named the Player of the Series for his performances in the first two T20Is of the series.
