Australia's Steve O'Keefe likely to conclude BBL career
Steve O’Keefe, an experienced all-rounder from Australia, may play his last Big Bash League match on Friday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. O’Keefe, 39, may be playing in his final season of a professional career, but since the Sydney Sixers are still in the running to make the championship, it may be a while before he says goodbye. O’Keefe has previously stated that he wants to leave cricket, but this time is different—the seasoned spinner is serious about calling it quits. “This might be my final game at the SCG because I won’t be able to play next year. According to ESPNcricinfo, he stated, “I’ll make sure the right people know that at the right time, but it’s not 100% confirmed.”
“I’ve had a great time playing it and now the expectation around your training and your body, committing to cricket 12 months of the year is probably something that’s a bit past me at the moment. I feel really fulfilled with what I’ve done career-wise and very, very happy. I’ve had a lot of fun this year and am certainly still enjoying it,” he added. O’Keefe is the third-highest wicket-taker for the Sixers in the BBL, with 94 scalps to his name at an average of 23.40 and a paltry economy rate of 6.69.
He has only claimed three wickets in six games this current BBL season, indicating that he hasn’t been very successful at taking wickets. However, he has made up for it by giving up at 6.65 an over. As his career as a player draws to an end, O’Keefe discussed his goals for after retirement. “I’d like to help out, think spin bowling is somewhere I can help,” he replied. O’Keefe remarked, “I’m passionate about it.”
