“Still Early Days In His Career As A Coach..”: Shastri Backs Gambhir After Test Series Loss

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his support for current head coach Gautam Gambhir following India’s recent Test series loss to New Zealand. This defeat, marking India’s first Test series loss at home in 12 years, has raised eyebrows as the Kiwis, led by Mitchell Santner’s impressive 13-wicket haul, secured a 2-0 series victory with a game still to play.

Shastri noted that Gambhir is still in the early stages of his coaching career, stating, “It is never easy being coach of a team that has such a big following. He has just taken over the job. It is still early days in his career as a coach. But he’ll soon learn.” He emphasized that the team’s performance in the series serves as a “food for thought” moment, recognizing the significant challenge Gambhir faces in adapting to the role.

As India navigates this setback, Gambhir’s coaching journey is expected to evolve as he learns from these experiences.
