“They outplayed Us In The Whole Series”: Salman Agha Reacts After Getting Thrashed 4-1 In The T-20 Series Against New Zealand

March 26, 2025: New Zealand sealed a convincing 4-1 series victory over Pakistan in the fifth and final T20I of their series at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday. The hosts, led by an explosive innings from Tim Seifert and a stunning five-wicket haul from James Neesham, dominated Pakistan in all departments, securing an 8-wicket win and a comprehensive series triumph.

Pakistan’s Struggles with the Bat

Pakistan, opting to bat first, found themselves in trouble early in the match. Despite a decent start, the visitors were quickly reduced to 27/3 by New Zealand’s bowlers. Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi were crucial in stifling Pakistan’s batting line-up, with Duffy dismissing two key wickets and Sodhi striking at the right moments.

The situation worsened for Pakistan when Neesham took control with the ball, picking up crucial wickets and putting Pakistan on the back foot. His performance was key in dismissing the middle order, leaving Pakistan at a precarious 52/4 at the halfway point. Neesham’s spell continued to trouble the Pakistani batters as he cleaned up the tail, finishing with figures of 5/22 in his four overs, the best of the day.

Despite a fighting fifty from Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, who managed to score 51 from 39 balls, the visitors could not recover. The rest of the batting failed to click, and Pakistan were eventually restricted to 128/9 by the New Zealand bowlers.

Seifert’s Blazing Knock Secures Easy Chase

In response, New Zealand made light work of the chase, with Seifert setting the tone right from the start. He blasted his way to an unbeaten 97 runs off just 37 balls, a knock that included 10 sixes and 6 fours. Seifert’s aggressive stroke play had Pakistan’s bowlers reeling, and the Kiwi team raced to the target in just 10 overs, securing the win with 8 wickets in hand.

Seifert’s incredible knock, coupled with Neesham’s dominant bowling performance, ensured New Zealand’s commanding victory in the final match, making it clear that they were the better team throughout the series.

Pakistan’s Efforts and Positives

After the match, Pakistan’s skipper Salman Ali Agha acknowledged New Zealand’s all-around performance and dominance in the series but highlighted some positive performances. “They were outstanding. They outplayed us in the whole series, but there were plenty of positives. Hasan and Haris batted well in Auckland, and Sufiyan’s bowling today was impressive,” Agha said. “The focus now is on the Asia Cup and the World Cup. I believe with more experience, we’ll be a different team in the ODIs,” he added.

Agha’s comments reflect Pakistan’s intentions to bounce back stronger in the longer format, where they will have more time to recover and regroup.

Awards and Recognition

Tim Seifert’s blistering performances throughout the series earned him the Player of the Series award, with a total of 249 runs across the five matches. Seifert’s highlight was his explosive 97* in the fifth match, which helped New Zealand clinch the win in style.

James Neesham, with his match-winning five-wicket haul, was named Player of the Match. His contribution with the ball was the backbone of New Zealand’s victory, making him an invaluable asset to the team.

Looking Forward

New Zealand’s victory in the T20I series showcases their strength in the shortest format, and they will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, Pakistan will aim to regroup and focus on their preparations for the Asia Cup and the World Cup, where they hope to perform better in the 50-over format.

This comprehensive win for New Zealand serves as a statement ahead of future international challenges, with their team looking in top form across all departments.
