Tom Curran's Tenure with Sydney Sixers Cut Short Due to Knee Injury
A knee injury ended England all-rounder Tom Curran’s contentious Big Bash League season with the Sydney Sixers. In the end, Curran suffered a knee injury last Saturday against the Melbourne Stars during his final game with the Sixers. “Sydney Sixers international recruit Tom Curran has been ruled out for the remainder of the KFC BBL|13 season after sustaining a knee injury in the Sixers’ last match against the Melbourne Stars on Saturday,” the Sixers said in an official statement regarding Curran’s injury.
“Currently not known” is the BBL franchise’s further statement regarding the extent of his injury. The all-around player will take a plane to England for additional evaluations. Curran’s BBL season was nothing short of a roller coaster after he tried to complete a practice run-up on the pitch during the warm-up before the Sixers’ penultimate game against the Hobart Hurricanes on December 11 in Launceston and got into a fight with an official.
The Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder, and Brisbane Heat were among the three games Curran was scheduled to miss as a result of the BBL’s decision to uphold the ban despite the Sydney Sixers’ appeal. On January 3, the 28-year-old all-rounder was made available for on-field action. Although Curran’s regret for the incident was acknowledged during the appeals process, BBL general manager Alistair Dobson insisted that umpire respect was equally crucial.
“Umpires are an integral part of cricket, and players at all levels of the game must respect and value them for that reason. We appreciate Tom’s repentance after the appeal, and we’re excited to see him play for the Sixers again,” Dobson stated, quoting ESPNcricinfo. “Tom has been a long-time contributor to the BBL and is a clear fan-favourite and someone we hope will continue to play an integral role in the competition moving forward,” Dobson stated.
