Trent Boult Recalls His ‘Fondest’ IPL Memory Of Sharing the Dressing Room with This Legend

April 27, 2025: Mumbai Indians’ seasoned pacer Trent Boult recently reminisced about his fondest Indian Premier League (IPL) memory, sharing the moment he had the chance to play alongside one of his idols, the legendary Dale Steyn.

Boult’s IPL journey began in 2015 when he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a hefty sum of Rs 3.80 crore. It was here that he had the honor of sharing the dressing room with some of the game’s greats, including Eoin Morgan, David Warner, and Kevin Pietersen. But the most exciting part of his time with the Sunrisers was the opportunity to play alongside Steyn, a player who had long been one of Boult’s heroes.

“One of my fondest IPL memories is from 2015 when I was picked to play in Hyderabad. I’d idolized Dale Steyn growing up—and suddenly, I was sharing a dressing room with him. That’s the beauty of IPL: getting to play alongside guys you never imagined you’d meet,” Boult reflected during a special series on JioHotstar.

Boult’s IPL journey continued in 2020 when he made the switch to the five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians, for a price of Rs 3.2 crore. His time with Mumbai Indians proved to be a transformative one, where he experienced the team’s unique “One Family” culture, something he had never encountered before.

“When I moved from Delhi to Mumbai in 2020, I truly experienced what the MI ‘One Family’ culture is about. I’ve always felt welcomed, backed, and supported. They gave me the freedom to go out, express myself, and just do my thing. I feel very fortunate to be in this position,” Boult said.

One of the most vivid memories Boult has from his time with Mumbai came during the COVID-19 pandemic when the tournament was held in a bio-secure bubble in Abu Dhabi. The experience was unlike any other, but it was during this strange and unprecedented time that Mumbai Indians produced one of their most dominant seasons. Boult fondly recalled the atmosphere, saying, “That 2020 Mumbai Indians team was one of the best T20 sides I’ve ever been part of. The tournament flew by—we made it to the play-offs, won the final, and it was a great feeling. Many of those faces are still around, so there’s no reason we can’t create more magical memories.”

In the ongoing IPL season, Boult has rekindled his deadly partnership with the world’s best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. The duo has wreaked havoc with the ball, bringing Mumbai Indians back into contention with their combined prowess. Boult has been in fine form, picking up 10 wickets in 9 matches, including a match-winning performance with figures of 4/26 against his former team, Sunrisers Hyderabad.

As Boult continues to shine on the field, his reflections on his IPL journey not only highlight his admiration for his peers but also his gratitude for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped his career.
