Virat Kohli Begins Intense Training in Perth Ahead of High-Stakes BGT 2024-25

Perth [Australia], November 13 – Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has started his rigorous net practice in Perth, gearing up for the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. The series, which kicks off on November 22, comes at a critical juncture in Kohli’s career, as he faces pressure to regain his top form amid fierce competition from emerging players.

Known for his stellar performances on Australian soil, Kohli has always been a fan favorite Down Under. However, this time, the stakes are higher as he battles not only to reclaim his form but also to secure his place in the Test squad. Local media reports indicate that the cricketing world is watching Kohli’s training closely as he prepares for what may be a defining series in his career.

Forbes cricket journalist Tristan Lavalette commented on social media, saying, “Virat Kohli has started his Test preparations. He’s in the nets along with India’s other senior players, looking sharp against some short-of-length quick bowling.”

Daniel Cherny of Code Sports added that security around Kohli’s practice session at the WACA Ground has been tightened, with construction workers restricted from taking photos or videos to maintain focus and privacy for the team.

The Australian media has also warmly welcomed Kohli and Team India. The Daily Telegraph shared a tribute to Kohli with a headline, “Yugon ki Ladai,” accompanied by a feature highlighting his impressive record in Australia.

Kohli’s current form has sparked concern among fans. In 19 international matches this year, he has scored only 488 runs at an average of 20.33, a surprising contrast to his peak years between 2016 and 2019, when he scored 4,208 runs with a stellar average of 66.79, including 16 centuries and seven double centuries. Since 2020, his Test average has dropped to 31.68, with only two centuries.

The upcoming series holds significance as Kohli faces mounting scrutiny and calls for a younger player to take his spot if his form does not improve. The Border-Gavaskar series will be Kohli’s chance for a potential comeback, as he looks to re-establish his dominance on a stage where he has historically thrived.

The first Test between India and Australia will begin on November 22 in Perth. The series then moves to Adelaide for a day-night Test from December 6 to 10, followed by matches at The Gabba in Brisbane (December 14-18), the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (December 26-30), and the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7.
