"Virat Kohli is Zero Compared to Babar Azam": Ex-Pakistan Coach Sparks Controversy
March 2, 2025: Former Pakistan cricketer and coach Mohsin Khan has stirred up controversy with a bold statement comparing Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. As Pakistan faces scrutiny following their early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Mohsin dismissed Kohli’s stature in world cricket, saying, “Virat Kohli is nothing compared to Babar Azam; Kohli is zero.”
Speaking to ARY News, Mohsin criticized Pakistan’s cricketing structure, emphasizing poor planning, lack of strategy, and absence of accountability rather than focusing on individual player comparisons.
“We are not talking about who is a better player. We are talking about how Pakistan cricket has been destroyed. There is no planning, no merit, and no accountability at all,” he stated.
Despite the bold claim, Babar Azam had a disappointing tournament, scoring only 87 runs in two matches. His slow half-century against New Zealand and failure against India contributed to Pakistan’s winless campaign, leading to their group-stage elimination.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli silenced critics by scoring a match-winning century against Pakistan—his 51st ODI ton. Kohli has been one of the most consistent performers in major ICC tournaments, making Mohsin’s remarks even more surprising.
Ex-Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam also questioned Pakistan’s decision to send Babar Azam as an opener, calling it a strategic blunder.
“Babar is not an opener. He should have played at No. 3, which is the backbone of any batting lineup. He should have been told to anchor the innings and score a century. If he did that, along with a supporting 50 or 60 from another batter, Pakistan could have posted 300 runs,” Alam explained.
Following their Champions Trophy disaster, pressure is mounting on captain Mohammad Rizwan, with speculation of a leadership change on the horizon. Fans and analysts alike are calling for a major overhaul in Pakistan cricket to address their declining performances on the international stage.
