Watch: Shubman Gill’s Sister Consoles Ashish Nehra’s Daughter After Loss vs Mumbai Indians

May 31, 2025: Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2025 campaign came to a heartbreaking end after they lost to Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in a thrilling Eliminator clash on Friday in Mullanpur. Chasing a daunting target of 229 set by Mumbai Indians, GT fought valiantly, powered by an impressive innings from Sai Sudharsan, but ultimately fell short at 208/6.

The crushing defeat saw emotions spill over among the Titans’ camp, with coach Ashish Nehra’s son visibly in tears in the stands. Even Shubman Gill’s sister was seen breaking down, receiving consolation from those seated nearby.

Captain Shubman Gill reflected on the match and highlighted key missed opportunities that swung the game in Mumbai’s favor. “It wasn’t easy for the bowlers to control, and it doesn’t help when you drop three catches. 210 would’ve been par for us on this pitch,” Gill said. “Even in the last over, we talked about how one or two fewer sixes from Mumbai would have made a huge difference.”

Mumbai Indians had surged to 228/5, thanks to crucial contributions from Rohit Sharma (81 off 50 balls) and Hardik Pandya, who smashed three sixes in the final overs to set a formidable total. The match was a rollercoaster, with momentum swinging back and forth until Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal marked the beginning of GT’s decline.

Gujarat Titans’ chances were dented early in the match by some costly fielding errors. Gerald Coetzee dropped Rohit Sharma early on, while Kusal Mendis, brought in as a replacement for Jos Buttler, also missed two crucial chances, including a catch off Suryakumar Yadav’s edge. These lapses proved costly, as Mumbai’s batsmen capitalized to build a strong total.

Despite the loss, GT’s fight and resilience were commendable, but the dropped chances and Mumbai’s late onslaught meant their journey in IPL 2025 ended sooner than hoped. Mumbai Indians now advance to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, while Gujarat Titans will regroup and look ahead to next season.
