West Indies Women Team Secures A Spot In The Semifinals Of T20 World Cup Following A Crucial Win Over England

October 16, 2024: The West Indies women’s team secured a stunning victory over England in Dubai, ensuring their progression to the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup.

This win, along with South Africa’s qualification, determined the two semi-finalists from Group B. They now join Australia and New Zealand from Group A in the knockout stage of the tournament.

Semi-final Fixtures:

Australia vs. South Africa: The first semi-final will take place in Dubai on Thursday, October 17, at 6:00 pm local time. This match will be a rematch of the thrilling final from last year’s tournament.

West Indies vs. New Zealand: The second semi-final is scheduled for Friday, October 18, in Sharjah, also at 6:00 pm local time.

  • The winners of both semi-finals will face each other in the final, set for Sunday, October 16 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium at 6:00 pm local time. The champions will receive the highest prize money ever awarded in the tournament’s history.

Coming to the match , England Innings: After being put in to bat by West Indies, Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a crucial unbeaten 57 off 50 balls, while Heather Knight contributed 21 off 13 before being retired hurt. England posted a total of 141/7, with West Indies bowlers Afy Fletcher (3/21) and Hayley Matthews (2/35) shining with the ball.

West Indies Run-chase: The chase was anchored by a brilliant opening partnership of 102 runs between skipper Hayley Matthews, who scored 50 off 38 balls, and Qiana Joseph, who hit 52 off 36 balls. Their contributions ensured a comfortable six-wicket victory for the West Indies with two overs to spare.

Qiana Joseph’s outstanding performance earned her the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

With both Australia and New Zealand also in top form, the semi-finals promise to be exciting, with the potential for a thrilling final on Sunday.
