June 29, 2025: Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen is rewriting T20 cricket history in style. Playing for Washington Freedom in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season, the 23-year-old is now just one Player of the Match award away from equaling a world record.
With four consecutive POTM honors under his belt, Owen stands on the cusp of joining Bangladesh legend Shakib Al Hasan as the player with the most successive POTM awards in T20 history — five in a row.

In his latest match against the San Francisco Unicorns, Owen bagged a sensational 5/17, stifling the opposition in their chase of 170. Though he registered a first-ball duck with the bat, his bowling heroics were enough to clinch his fourth straight POTM.
His recent performances have been nothing short of spectacular:
- Vs LA Knight Riders: 43 off 16 balls, 0/47
- Vs Texas Super Kings: 3/33 & 89 off 52 balls
- Vs MI New York: 1/29 & 60 off 26 balls
Owen is also second in both the runs and wickets charts this season, with 288 runs (avg. 41.14, SR 210.21) and 14 wickets (avg. 14.35). His explosive batting and clutch bowling have made him the breakout star of the tournament.
Already a hero for the Hobart Hurricanes with a historic 108-run blitz in the BBL final, Owen now aims to make global T20 history — with just one more iconic performance.
