WTC 2025-27 Points Table Updated After India’s Loss in 3rd Test Against England at Lord’s
London, July 14:
England’s nail-biting 22-run victory over India at Lord’s not only gave them a 2-1 lead in the five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series but also caused a notable shift in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 standings.
In a dramatic Day 5 showdown, India collapsed for 170 runs while chasing a target of 193, handing England the win and a crucial boost in their WTC campaign. With this result, England’s points percentage (PCT) soared from 50.00 to 66.67, placing them in joint second place alongside Sri Lanka. Australia continues to top the table with a flawless record in the ongoing cycle.
Meanwhile, India’s loss sees them slip from second to fourth, with their PCT now down to 33.33, having won only one of their three matches so far.
In a game of momentum swings and gritty performances, both teams posted identical first-innings scores of 387. For England, Joe Root’s century (104) along with key contributions from Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse laid the platform. India responded with fifties from K.L. Rahul (101), Rishabh Pant (74) and Ravindra Jadeja (72), while Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul highlighted the bowling effort.
The final innings, however, exposed India’s fragility. Reduced to 58/4 by stumps on Day 4, India never truly recovered. Despite Jadeja’s late fightback and a partnership with Mohammed Siraj, the innings ended in heartbreak — 22 runs short of the target — with Siraj falling in a bizarre fashion, padding a ball back onto the stumps.
Mitchell Starc, Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, and Carse took critical wickets in the final innings, cementing England’s position as a strong contender in the WTC race.
With two matches left in the series, both India and England remain in the hunt not just for the series win but also vital WTC points. For India, the road ahead involves winning both remaining Tests to regain momentum and climb back into the top three.
