June 1, 2025: Punjab Kings (PBKS) are all set to welcome back their star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for the high-stakes IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chahal, who had missed the last three matches due to a wrist injury, has returned to bowling in the nets and is deemed fit for selection.

Sources confirm that Chahal will be in the squad, likely as an Impact Player, with head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer considering using him early in the innings to minimize the risk of re-injury.

Musheer Khan Makes Way

With Chahal’s return, Musheer Khan is expected to sit out. Musheer had made his IPL debut recently but struggled with the bat, registering a three-ball duck. He also bowled two overs, conceding 27 runs and taking the wicket of Mayank Agarwal.

Chahal’s Record Against Mumbai Indians

Chahal’s inclusion comes as a huge boost for PBKS, especially considering his excellent track record against Mumbai Indians. In 20 games against MI, the leggie has picked up 29 wickets at an average of 21.24 and an economy rate of 8.00. His tactical nous and experience in high-pressure matches make him a key asset for PBKS.

Season So Far

While Chahal had a slow start in the ongoing season, he regained his form with a 4/28 performance against Kolkata Knight Riders, helping PBKS defend the lowest total in IPL history. He has taken 14 wickets in 11 matches this season, with an average of 25.28 and an economy of 9.56.

Playoff Experience

Chahal has played in multiple IPL playoff games since 2015 and carries a mixed record. He has delivered in several crunch moments, including:

  • 2/20 vs RR (2015)
  • 2/28 vs CSK (2015 Qualifier 2)
  • 2/16 vs KKR (2021 Eliminator)

However, he has also had games where he remained wicketless, including IPL 2022 and 2024 playoff matches.

As PBKS aim for a place in the IPL 2025 Final, Chahal’s return could be the X-factor they need to overcome a dangerous MI side.
