Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez to Marry in Historic Funchal Cathedral, Deets Inside
Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez, have reportedly finalized their wedding plans for the summer of 2026, choosing the historic Funchal Cathedral in his native Madeira for the ceremony.
November 26, 2025: After announcing their engagement in August, superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and model-influencer Georgina Rodriguez have reportedly set their wedding date and venue, choosing a location steeped in personal history for the global icon.
The couple, who have been together for nine years, are planning a summer 2026 wedding, specifically scheduled to take place after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, ensuring it fits seamlessly around Ronaldo’s professional commitments.
According to reports, the ceremony will be held at the majestic Funchal Cathedral (Sé do Funchal) on the island of Madeira, Ronaldo’s birthplace. The historic cathedral, which was inaugurated in 1514 and is the oldest place of worship on the island, holds profound symbolic significance for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The location is situated less than two kilometers from the hospital where Ronaldo was born and near the base of Nacional da Madeira, his childhood club before he moved to Sporting Lisbon.
Following the intimate Christian ceremony at the cathedral, the couple is expected to host a reception at a luxury hotel on the island, keeping with Georgina Rodriguez’s preference for smaller, more private celebrations over “over-the-top large affairs.”
Ronaldo first met the Argentine-Spanish model in 2016 while she was working at a Gucci store in Madrid during his tenure with Real Madrid. Their relationship grew, and they now share two daughters, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda, and co-parent Ronaldo’s three other children.
Ronaldo recently revealed details of his spontaneous proposal to Piers Morgan, explaining that the timing felt right because Georgina is “the mother of my kids” and “the person that I love more.”
Cristiano Ronaldo: “I’m always saying the things, the good things, coming at the right time. And sometimes you need time to realise that, [so] you don’t do some mistakes… I think it’s the moment, not only because it’s the mother of my kids, but only it’s the person that I love more… It’s the love of my life.”
The wedding, which is expected to capture global attention, will mark a significant new chapter for the couple and will solidify Madeira’s place as the emotional heart of one of football’s greatest careers.
