Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has offered a surprising take on US President Donald Trump, lauding him as an individual capable of influencing global change. The comments were made during a recent interview with Piers Morgan, where Ronaldo was asked about a signed jersey he had sent to the President.
Ronaldo had gifted a signed jersey to the US President in June, which carried the message, “playing for peace.” When asked about the gesture, the widely influential athlete shared his view on Trump’s power.
“He’s one of the guys that can help to change the world,” Ronaldo told Morgan.
This praise comes as the legendary forward continues to command immense influence, particularly after his move to the Saudi Pro League in late 2022, which has since inspired numerous renowned players to join the country’s football scene.
The 40-year-old icon, who has amassed a remarkable 952 goals in his career and is currently targeting the 1000-goal mark, also opened up about his inevitable retirement from professional football. Ronaldo admitted the moment will be difficult and emotional.
“I will be prepared. It’ll be tough and difficult, of course. Probably I will cry, yes. It will be very difficult, but Piers, I have prepared for my future since 25 or 26 years old,” he stated.
While acknowledging that nothing will compare to the “adrenaline” of scoring a goal on the big stage, Ronaldo looks forward to retirement, intending to become a more present “family person.” He plans to dedicate time to his family, raise his children, and closely follow the career of his son, Cristiano Junior.
