David Warner Shuts Down Claim Of Indian Trolling Over PSL Debut, Says ‘First Time I’ve Heard Of It’

April 12, 2025: Australia’s former opener and newly-appointed Karachi Kings captain, David Warner, brushed off claims of being trolled by Indian fans for joining the Pakistan Super League (PSL), stating that he hadn’t heard of any such backlash and remained focused on cricket.

Speaking at his first press conference as Karachi Kings captain, Warner was asked a provocative question by a Pakistani journalist, who alleged that “many Indians” had mocked him for playing in the PSL following his non-selection in the 2024 IPL auction.

The reporter’s question implied that Warner’s appearance in the PSL was being linked by some to his IPL snub, suggesting a wave of online hate from Indian fans. Warner, however, appeared unfazed and responded with grace and clarity.

“This is the first I’ve heard of it,” Warner said. “From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There’s an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn’t allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully we are able to win the trophy.”

Warner, who last played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, had captained the franchise during the 2023 season after regular skipper Rishabh Pant was sidelined due to injuries from a car accident. However, Warner was released ahead of the 2024 IPL auction, and subsequently went unsold.

His PSL debut this season marks a new chapter following his retirement from international cricket, and fans of the league are excited to see him in action. Warner also brings with him years of experience in franchise cricket, having starred in leagues like the IPL, BBL, and The Hundred.

Despite the attempt to stir controversy, Warner stayed composed, choosing instead to focus on his new leadership role and the team’s performance in the upcoming season.

Karachi Kings, under Warner’s captaincy, will face Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans in their opening match of the PSL season.
