July 27, 2025: FC Barcelona is facing a fresh problem with its goalkeeping situation after signing Joan García and Marc-André ter Stegen’s upcoming surgery. Deco, the club’s sporting director, met with García’s agents this Friday morning to talk about worries over the young goalkeeper’s registration and position.

Last season, there was a lot of friction in Barcelona’s goalkeeping department since Ter Stegen was hurt and had to miss a lot of games. Iñaki Peña took over, but the coaching staff wasn’t quite convinced. Joan García’s arrival was considered as a big plus because he was young, had a lot of promise, and had experience in La Liga. The coaching staff is said to think that García is ready to take on duties right away. They praise his modern profile, ball distribution, fast reflexes, and surprising maturity.

However, García’s registration has grown more difficult because both Ter Stegen and Iñaki Peña are still with the club. The most important thing right now is that Ter Stegen’s back troubles have been proven and he will need surgery. His expected three-month medical leave, while important, is not enough to open up a roster place under existing rules.

During the important meeting at the Sports City headquarters, García’s group expressed their worries about the timetables and whether Joan would be registered on time or have to sit on the bench. Deco sent a strong message of comfort to calm these worries. He said that the club’s goal is to register Joan García as soon as possible and that they will look for a way to do so even if there are legal problems. The coaching staff’s strong belief in García’s skills shows how much the club cares about the young player.
