Dhruv Jurel Dedicates Maiden Ton to Indian Army Against West Indies

Jurel struck a brilliant 125 against the West Indies to put India in a commanding position. He reserved his maiden Test century celebration to honor the discipline and sacrifice of the Indian Army.

October 3, 2025: Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel marked a significant milestone in his nascent career by dedicating his maiden Test hundred against the West Indies to the Indian Army, expressing his profound “respect for what they do on the battlefield.”

The 24-year-old struck a superb 125 on the second day of the opening Test, helping India establish a dominant position at 448 for five at stumps. His efforts built upon centuries from senior colleagues KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, making it a day of prolific scoring for the hosts.

Beyond his excellent display with the bat, Jurel’s celebration after reaching both his half-century and the hundred captured widespread attention. The salute was a powerful and personal tribute to the Indian Army and his father, a Kargil war veteran.

Elaborating on his gesture, Jurel said, “The celebration at fifty was for my father and the celebration after the hundred was for the army. I always have my respect for them for what they do on the battle field. I will like to dedicate this to them (Indian Army) for what they do.”

Jurel further highlighted the mindset that helped him seize the moment, stating, “It’s about the privilege, a lot of people remain with the squad. Even if I am not playing I keep working hard so that I can deliver when there is an opportunity. It comes with discipline, and I keep myself motivated.”

Jurel shared a crucial 206-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja, who also registered a century, as India took a commanding lead over the West Indies, who were earlier bowled out for 162.

The young wicketkeeper’s blend of composure, technique, and powerful strokeplay not only secured a personal landmark but also reinforced his growing stature in the Indian Test side.
