The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 has been rocked by a major disciplinary blow as the league’s Technical Committee officially dismissed an appeal by Lahore Qalandars’ star batter Fakhar Zaman.

On Friday, April 3, 2026, it was confirmed that the 35-year-old must serve a two-match ban for his involvement in a ball-tampering incident during a high-stakes clash against Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium.

The controversy erupted during the final over of the match when on-field umpires observed a suspicious change in the ball’s condition. Evidence suggested the ball was altered while being handled by Fakhar Zaman, captain Shaheen Afridi, and bowler Haris Rauf. After a de novo inquiry, the committee—comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband, and Mr. Syed Ali Naqi—upheld the maximum penalty originally imposed by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama, citing a breach of Article 41.3 regarding the unfair alteration of the ball.

The fallout from the incident had an immediate impact on the field; a five-run penalty was slapped on the Qalandars, reducing the target for the Karachi Kings to just 9 runs in the final over. Abbas Afridi capitalized on the momentum, smashing a four and a six to secure a dramatic four-wicket victory. Fakhar, who has vehemently denied the charges, will now be sidelined for the Qalandars’ crucial upcoming fixtures against Multan Sultans today, April 3, and Islamabad United on April 9.

This disciplinary action comes amidst a whirlwind of cricket news, including Shikhar Dhawan’s recent praise for young prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Jasprit Bumrah’s nearing return to the national side. While the PSL grapples with this scandal, the broader Indian sports landscape is equally busy with Virat Kohli’s viral practice antics and the record-breaking box office run of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2, which has now crossed the ₹1460 crore mark globally.
