Filip Misolic Stuns Borges at Nordea Open; Rublev, Bublik Advance in ATP Action

July 18, 2025: Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic pulled off a thrilling upset at the Nordea Open on Thursday in Bastad, Sweden, rallying from 5-2 down in the second set and saving triple match point to defeat Portuguese third seed Nuno Borges 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3. Misolic turned the tide in the tiebreak and finished the match with a 35-22 advantage in winners. He advances to the quarterfinals, where he will face Argentine fifth seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who edged out Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-3 in a two-hour, 50-minute battle.

Top seed Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina eased past compatriot Mariano Navone 6-3, 6-3 to book his place in the quarters. He will next meet seventh seed Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who came from a set down to beat France’s Hugo Gaston 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

EFG Swiss Open Gstaad

In Gstaad, Switzerland, second seed Alexander Bublik powered into the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over fellow Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko. Bublik won 80 percent of his first-serve points (24 of 30) in a dominant performance.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry was eliminated by France’s Arthur Cazaux 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Cazaux delivered 16 aces and saved 10 of 11 break points to secure the upset.

Also moving into the quarterfinals were Argentina’s Francisco Comesana and Juan Manuel Cerundolo, along with Swiss wild card Jerome Kym.

In Los Cabos, Mexico, top seed Andrey Rublev of Russia came from behind to defeat unseeded American Emilio Nava 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Third seed Denis Shapovalov of Canada cruised past Australia’s Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 6-2 to set up a semifinal clash with eighth seed Adam Walton, who beat fellow Aussie James Duckworth 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Seventh seed Aleksandar Kovacevic faced Argentina’s Juan Pablo Ficovich in the final quarterfinal match, with the winner set to meet Rublev in Friday’s semifinals.
