“Frustrating Really..”, Says Josh Hazelwood After Exclusion From Remaining BGT Series

December 19, 2024: Josh Hazlewood’s injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has been a tough blow, both for the Australian team and the seasoned pacer himself. Speaking candidly about his frustration, Hazlewood shared his thoughts after suffering a calf strain during the fourth innings of the third Test at the Gabba against India. He had already missed the second Test due to fitness concerns and his involvement in the third Test had been limited. It has now been confirmed that Hazlewood will miss the remainder of the series.

Reflecting on the injury, Hazlewood said, “Just frustrating really. I ticked every box heading into the test and then I could understand if it was my side again and a little bit underdone, but this is sort of just a random calf strain I guess.” He went on to express his intention to investigate the injury further, stating, “Will do a deep dive into it and see what we can come up with, but it feels pretty random sort of an injury.”

Hazlewood also discussed his history with injuries, particularly to his calves and sides, which have kept him out of action over the past few years. He explained, “I’ve had a little history of probably sides and calves, they’re probably the two things that have kept me out for the majority over the last four years, but yeah I sort of just keep adding another layer to the defence hopefully. Get back in the gym. I’ve ticked a lot of boxes you know in the last 12 months.”

At 33 years old, Hazlewood’s focus on his fitness and recovery is evident, but injuries like these are a tough hurdle for any athlete, especially someone as integral to the Australian bowling attack as him. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping for a swift recovery so that Hazlewood can return to action soon.
