Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s unbeaten 205-run stand decimates Delhi Capitals as GT becomes the first team to qualify for playoffs with dominant chase of 200 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
New Delhi, May 19: Gujarat Titans delivered a masterclass in dominance as they crushed Delhi Capitals by 10 wickets, chasing down a daunting target of 200 with ease at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. A record-breaking unbeaten 205-run opening partnership between skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan ensured GT sealed their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, climbing to the top of the points table with 18 points from 12 matches.
Sudarshan was the star of the chase, smashing a career-best 108 off 61 balls*, including 12 fours and 6 sixes, at a strike rate of 177.05. Gill, not far behind, anchored the innings with 93 off 53 deliveries*, decorated with 3 boundaries and 7 towering sixes. The duo reached every milestone with ease—bringing up their 50-run stand by the 5th over, the 100 by the 11th, and sealing the victory with a six off the final ball of the 19th over.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals had posted a competitive 199/3 after being put into bat. Skipper KL Rahul led from the front, remaining unbeaten on 112 off 65 balls*, with a dazzling display of 14 fours and 4 sixes. He was well-supported by Abishek Porel (30 off 19) and Axar Patel (25 off 16), while Tristan Stubbs added late fireworks with 21* off just 10 balls.
Despite the strong batting performance, DC’s bowlers had no answers to the relentless onslaught from Gill and Sudharsan. Harsh starts by GT pacers Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan earlier helped limit the Capitals’ momentum in the powerplay, but it was the Titans’ batters who completely took control of the match.
With this commanding win, Gujarat Titans not only handed a heavy blow to Delhi Capitals’ playoff hopes but also sent a strong message to all contenders with their well-rounded performance. DC, with 13 points from 12 games, remain in the playoff hunt but must now rely on other results going their way.
