Mumbai Indians defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets; Jacks stars with all-round show, Cummins’ efforts in vain
Mumbai, April 18: Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their third win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium. The star of the match was all-rounder Will Jacks, whose impactful performance with both bat and ball earned high praise from captain Hardik Pandya.
Jacks claimed two crucial wickets—including that of the dangerous Travis Head—and then contributed a quickfire 36 with the bat. Post-match, Hardik lauded the team’s execution and bowling intelligence.
“The way we bowled was very smart and spot on. We stuck to simple, basic plans. Certain balls were not easy to hit… credit to the bowlers that we made them hit some good shots,” said Hardik.
He also applauded Jacks’ versatility, calling him a “gun fielder” and a reliable contributor in tight situations.
“When we needed 42 off 42, we felt it was a tricky part… as soon as boundaries come, pressure gets off. That’s why we pushed the pedal at the end,” he added.

Match Recap:
MI won the toss and chose to bowl. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma (40) and Travis Head (28) gave a strong start with a 59-run stand. However, the innings lost momentum, managing 162/5 in 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with 37, while Jacks (2/14) and Bumrah (1/21) were MI’s standout bowlers.
In response, MI’s chase was built on brisk knocks from Rohit Sharma (26), Ryan Rickelton (31), and Suryakumar Yadav (26). A steady 52-run stand between Jacks and Surya set up the win. Despite late wickets from Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36), Tilak Varma (21*) held his nerve to guide MI to victory in 18.1 overs.
With the win, MI moved to 7th place on the table with 6 points (3 wins, 4 losses), while SRH slipped to 9th with just 4 points from 7 games.
