Hasan Ali Boldly Claims PSL Will Draw Viewers Away From IPL
April 9, 2025: With the ongoing clash between the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) schedules, Pakistan’s fast bowler Hasan Ali expressed confidence that viewers would choose the PSL over IPL if Pakistani players perform well.
The PSL, traditionally held in February and March, has been shifted to April and May this year due to Pakistan’s congested international cricket calendar. This shift has led to a scheduling conflict with the 18th edition of IPL. While IPL is widely regarded as the premier T20 tournament in the world, Hasan believes the appeal of PSL could rival it, provided the players raise their game.
“Fans watch the tournament where there’s good cricket with entertainment. If we play well in the PSL, viewers will leave the IPL to watch us,” Hasan said, as quoted by Geo News ahead of the PSL opener.
Hasan, who is set to play for the Karachi Kings in the 10th edition of the PSL, also reflected on Pakistan’s recent struggles in international cricket. The national team’s disappointing performances in major tournaments, including their early exit from the 2023 Champions Trophy, have affected the overall cricket environment in the country. However, Hasan remained optimistic, citing the potential for a fresh outlook with new players and management.
“When the national team doesn’t perform well, it impacts franchise leagues like the PSL. But when Pakistan does well, the PSL’s graph also rises,” he said.
Hasan acknowledged that Pakistan’s international cricket team had its share of challenges but believed the newer faces in the squad, along with fresh management, would bring improvement in the future. He expressed hope that with time, Pakistan’s cricket would recover, and the PSL would continue to gain momentum.
