‘He Bats Like His Father Sachin’: Yograj Singh Praises Arjun Tendulkar’s Natural Batting Talent
Arjun Tendulkar has grown up under immense scrutiny, carrying the weight of expectations that come with being the son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. While he is primarily known as a left-arm fast bowler in domestic cricket and the IPL, former India cricketer Yograj Singh believes Arjun’s batting ability has been largely overlooked.
Speaking on Ravish Bisht’s YouTube channel, Yograj recalled a brief training stint when Arjun visited him early in his career. Admitting he had never seen Arjun bat before, Yograj said he was surprised by the youngster’s stroke play in the nets.
“He was hitting fours and sixes with ease,” Yograj said, adding that he questioned Arjun’s coaches on why he was never encouraged to bat. According to him, Arjun showed “great quality” and batted in a style reminiscent of his father Sachin Tendulkar.
Yograj further revealed that Arjun practiced batting for nearly three hours every day during the 12 days he trained with him. Soon after returning, Arjun made his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa in 2022 and scored a century in his very first match, matching a feat once achieved by his father.
Despite that promising start, Arjun’s batting returns in first-class cricket have been modest since, with an average of around 21 and a couple of half-centuries. Yograj, however, remains convinced that Arjun deserved more opportunities higher up the order.
He even claimed to have messaged Mumbai Indians officials, urging them to let Arjun open the batting in a few IPL games, a suggestion that was never taken up.
Now 26, Arjun Tendulkar is continuing his journey in domestic cricket and has moved to Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2026 season. While a national team berth may be a long shot, voices like Yograj Singh’s underline the belief that Arjun still has untapped potential—especially with the bat.
