July 7, 2025: Cricketer Akashdeep delivered a career-defining performance in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, claiming a stunning 10-wicket haul and leading India to a thumping 336-run victory. But it was his heartfelt post-match dedication that stole the spotlight and moved fans to tears — the pacer dedicated the match-winning effort to his sister, Jyoti, who is currently battling stage three cancer.

Cricketer Akashdeep, who came into the Indian squad as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, turned into a game-changer with the ball, often looking unplayable on a lively Edgbaston track. Following the match, the 27-year-old revealed that his thoughts were with his sister throughout the game.
His sister Jyoti, shared her emotional reaction to the tribute. “It is a matter of pride for India – he has taken 10 wickets. Before the England tour, we met him at the airport. I told him, ‘I’m absolutely fine, don’t worry about me, just do well for the country,’” she said. “I am in the third stage of cancer, and the treatment will go on for six more months, after which we’ll see.”

She described how proud the entire family was watching Cricketer Akashdeep’s performance. “It makes me very happy when Akash takes wickets. Whenever he gets a wicket, all of us start clapping and cheering so loudly that the neighbours ask what has happened!” she laughed.

Jyoti revealed that she had no idea her brother would speak about her on such a big platform. “Maybe we weren’t ready to talk about it publicly, but the way he became emotional and said it for me — it’s a big deal. It shows how much he loves our family. Given the situation at home, and still performing like that, it’s huge.”
She also shared a glimpse of Akash’s support and emotional strength off the field. “When he was playing for the Lucknow team in the IPL, I was admitted to the hospital for cancer treatment. Even then, he would come to meet me before or after matches.”
The sibling bond was further highlighted when Akash called Jyoti after the match. “We spoke twice over video call and again at 5 a.m. Akash told me, ‘Don’t worry, the whole country is with us.’ He said, ‘I tried to hold it in, but yesterday I just couldn’t anymore.’”
Jyoti also revealed that Akash has been the emotional pillar of the family since the passing of their father and eldest brother. “He manages the whole household. Such a brother is rare. He doesn’t do anything without talking to us.”
Akash Deep’s performance and heartfelt dedication have now captured the imagination of cricket fans across the country, who are not only applauding his talent but also his strength of character.
