ICC Reveals Match Officials for Men's Champions Trophy 2025
February 5, 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the esteemed panel of 15 match officials for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held from February 19 to March 9, 2025. The tournament, which will be hosted in Pakistan and the UAE, will see action unfold in four iconic venues: Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi in Pakistan, and Dubai in the UAE.
The panel of umpires includes 12 highly regarded officials, with six of them having previously officiated during the 2017 Champions Trophy. Among them is Richard Kettleborough, a seasoned umpire who officiated the final of the 2017 edition. Kettleborough, with over 100 One Day International (ODI) matches under his belt, will be joined by other veterans such as Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Richard Illingworth, Paul Reiffel, and Rod Tucker, who also officiated in the 2017 event.
Dharmasena, who has officiated in a record 132 ODIs, is set to add another major tournament to his impressive career. The umpires who were part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India — including Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Ahsan Raza, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson — will also be officiating at the Champions Trophy 2025.
As for the match referees, the panel will be led by three distinguished names: David Boon, Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft. All three are respected members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, with Boon having officiated in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. Madugalle, who returns after officiating the 2013 final, and Pycroft, also a veteran of the 2017 edition, will complete the trio.
Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager for Umpires and Referees, expressed his excitement about the appointment of this highly experienced team, stating that their expertise will ensure the smooth running of the prestigious tournament. Easey added that the ICC always strives to appoint the most deserving officials and is confident that the panel will deliver an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
With the best officials from around the world set to officiate, cricket fans can look forward to a well-organized and thrilling ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
