Rohit Sharma’s leadership and standout performances in the T20 World Cup 2024 earn him captaincy of the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year, alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya.
January 25, 2025: Rohit Sharma, after guiding India to their second T20 World Cup title, has been named the captain of the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024. Despite struggling in the Test format, Rohit showcased brilliance in the shortest format, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer of the T20 World Cup. His leadership brought the coveted ICC silverware to India, solidifying his spot as a top captain.
Joining Rohit in the team are three other Indian players—Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya. Bumrah, adjudged the Player of the Tournament, was instrumental in India’s World Cup triumph, while Arshdeep emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 17 scalps. Hardik Pandya, who dazzled with both bat and ball, further cemented his position as one of the best all-rounders in the tournament.

Australia’s Travis Head, who had an exceptional year with 255 runs in seven World Cup matches, was named as Rohit’s opening partner. England’s Phil Salt, who scored three T20I centuries in 2024, was chosen as the No. 3 batter.

Nicholas Pooran, the highest run-scorer across all T20s in 2024 with over 2,000 runs, earned the wicketkeeper slot. Pakistan’s Babar Azam, despite a less-than-stellar World Cup, found a place in the lineup, having scored 738 runs in 23 innings during the year.
The all-rounders include Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, India’s Hardik Pandya, and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who led Afghanistan to their first-ever semi-final in the T20 World Cup. Rashid was complemented by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga as the second spinner, adding depth to the bowling attack.
The formidable pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh completes the bowling lineup, bringing sheer firepower to the team.
