ICC Test Rankings: Bumrah Touches New High, Achieves Joint-Highest Rating By An Indian Bowler

December 25, 2024: Jasprit Bumrah has achieved a remarkable milestone in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, reaching 904 rating points, which ties the record for the highest rating ever attained by an Indian bowler.

This milestone matches the achievement of Ravichandran Ashwin, and Bumrah now has the chance to surpass this record during the upcoming Melbourne Test. His exceptional performance, including a stellar 9/94 in Brisbane, has propelled him to the top spot in the rankings, surpassing Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood.

In the Test Batting Rankings, Australia’s Travis Head has seen a significant rise, propelled by his brilliant century (152) at the Gabba and another century in Adelaide. This has moved him to the fourth spot with 825 points. Steve Smith also reentered the top 10 following his century in the third Test, while India’s KL Rahul made a notable jump to 40th after a strong showing in India’s first innings.

The Test All-rounders category also saw some movement, with Australia’s Pat Cummins returning to the top 10 after his all-round performance in the third Test against India. Meanwhile, Travis Head’s contributions have pushed him up to 29th in the all-rounders’ rankings.

In the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, Heinrich Klaasen’s consistent performances against Pakistan have seen him climb to 5th place, up from 13th, with 743 points. Meanwhile, Saim Ayub, with two centuries against Pakistan, made an impressive jump, moving from 70th to joint-23rd position, while also advancing 113 spots to joint-42nd among all-rounders.

In the ODI Bowling Rankings, Azmatullah Omarzai’s outstanding performance for Afghanistan, which included six wickets in the series against Zimbabwe, moved him up 43 places to 58th. His all-round performance also propelled him to third place in the all-rounders’ category.

The Men’s T20I Rankings also saw some notable rises. Mahedi Hasan of Bangladesh made an impressive 13-place leap to 10th in the T20I Bowling Rankings, while West Indies’ Roston Chase climbed 11 places to 13th. Bangladesh’s strong showing in their multi-format tour of the West Indies also saw players like Rishad Hossain and Hasan Mahmud making significant progress in the rankings.

This surge in rankings highlights the ongoing stellar performances across formats, with several players making substantial moves following recent series and tournaments.
