India Clinch 2025 Women’s U19 T20 World Cup With Emphatic Win Over South Africa

February 2, 2025: India successfully defended their Under-19 T20 World Cup title with a dominant 9-wicket victory over South Africa at Bayuemas Oval, extending their unbeaten run in the tournament. The win was a testament to India’s all-round performance, as they restricted South Africa to a meager total of 82 in the first innings.

South Africa’s batting struggles began early, with India’s bowlers taking control from the outset. Parunika Sisodia removed opener Simone Lourens for a duck, and Shabnam Shakil followed up with the dismissal of Jemma Botha. South Africa’s batting woes deepened as they slipped to 20/2 by the end of the 4th over. India continued to apply pressure, with Aayushi’s breakthrough leaving South Africa in dire straits at 29/3 after the powerplay. Skipper Kayla Reyneke’s attempt to counterattack fell short as she was caught by Gongadi Trisha at long-off, leaving South Africa at 33/3.

South Africa never recovered from that point, with India taking regular wickets. Gongadi Trisha’s brilliance continued, as she helped break the partnership between Fay Cowling and Mieke van Voorst, eventually finishing South Africa’s innings at 82 all out in 18.3 overs. Trisha was the standout performer with both the ball and bat, finishing the tournament with 309 runs and 7 wickets, earning her both Player of the Match and Player of the Series honors.

In response, India showed no signs of complacency, chasing down the target comfortably. Despite losing Kamalin in the penultimate over of the powerplay, the top-order continued to attack. Gongadi Trisha (44*) and Sanika Chalke (26*) ensured the chase was completed in just 12.5 overs, with more than eight overs to spare.

India’s dominant performance not only secured them the title but also highlighted their clinical approach in all aspects of the game, making it a memorable victory for the defending champions.
