‘Indian Cricket Stops For No One’: Sourav Ganguly’s Bold Verdict On Team India After Kohli-Rohit Exit

The former captain said the country’s strong talent pipeline has ensured that youngsters like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have seamlessly filled the void left by the star cricketers’ retirement, helping the team level the series against England.

August 6, 2025: Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, has made it obvious how he feels about how Team India played in the Test series against England that recently ended. Shubman Gill’s team was able to square the series 2-2 with a shock win at The Oval, even though they were missing stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who had just announced their retirement from the format before the match.

Ganguly said, “Indian cricket stops for no one,” which sums up the team’s turnaround. There are a lot of people that are very good at what they do. He praised the younger players, such Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill, for stepping up and taking over for the elder players. Ganguly contrasted this to the past, adding that after cricket greats like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar retired, a new crop of talented players always came along to take their place.

Ganguly said that India’s great cricket system, which includes the IPL, the “A” and Under-19 teams, and a strong domestic circuit, is what keeps the talent pouring in. He lauded the hitters KL Rahul, Gill, Jaiswal, Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar for playing well every game in the five-Test series.

The former captain said that India hadn’t won their first Test series in England since 2007, but he was really delighted with how the team fought and played. He called it a “very strong performance.”
