May 20, 2025: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi Suspension has been handed a one-match suspension by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council after breaching the league’s Code of Conduct for the third time this season. Rathi, who had already been penalized twice earlier for his extravagant celebrations after taking wickets, found himself at the center of controversy once again during LSG’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday.

The incident occurred during a heated exchange between Rathi and SRH batter Abhishek Sharma. After a tense moment between the two players, the situation escalated, prompting the umpires and other players to step in to defuse the altercation. The BCCI deemed Rathi’s actions a violation of the IPL Code of Conduct, marking his third such offense in the ongoing season.
As a result of accumulating five Demerit Points over the course of the season — including previous penalties against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians — Rathi has now been fined 50 percent of his match fee and will be suspended from LSG’s next game against Gujarat Titans, scheduled for May 22, 2025, in Ahmedabad.
Alongside Rathi, Abhishek Sharma was also penalized by the BCCI for his involvement in the altercation. Sharma, who was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for the first time this season, was fined 25 percent of his match fees and has accumulated one Demerit Point.
This incident adds to the ongoing disciplinary concerns surrounding player conduct in the IPL, with both players now facing consequences for their actions during the high-stakes match.
