April 9, 2025: Punjab Kings’ all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fees and handed a demerit point after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the New PCA Stadium on Tuesday.

The IPL confirmed the sanction on Wednesday, with Maxwell admitting to the Level 1 offence. The breach occurred under Article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of fixtures and fittings during the match. Maxwell accepted the decision of the match referee, who imposed a fine of 25% of his match fees and one demerit point.

The Australian all-rounder, who was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 4.2 crore, has had a relatively quiet IPL season with the bat, managing just 31 runs in four matches, including a brief dismissal for 1(2) against CSK. However, he has been contributing with the ball, taking 3 wickets in 4 appearances, including a valuable 1/11 in this match against CSK.

Despite Maxwell’s lackluster batting performance, Priyansh Arya’s stunning maiden IPL century (39-ball 100) led Punjab Kings to a formidable total of 219/6. The chase by CSK, powered by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, ultimately fell 18 runs short, handing Punjab Kings their victory.
