IPL 2025: Matthew Wade Joins Gujarat Titans As Assistant Coach

March 9, 2025: Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has made a return to the Gujarat Titans (GT) for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but this time, he will be part of the team as an assistant coach. Wade joins the franchise's support staff, which includes head coach Ashish Nehra, batting coach Parthiv Patel, and assistant coaches Aashish Kapoor and Narender Negi.

Wade, 37, previously played for the Gujarat Titans in the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons, featuring in 12 matches and scoring 161 runs. However, following his retirement from international cricket in October 2024, Wade has transitioned into a coaching role. His retirement marked the end of a distinguished 13-year career that saw him represent Australia in multiple formats, including Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

One of Wade’s most notable cricketing achievements came in 2021 when he helped lead Australia to their inaugural T20 World Cup title. As vice-captain, he played a pivotal role in Australia's success, particularly in the semi-final against Pakistan, where his remarkable 41* off 17 balls helped guide the team to victory.

Wade’s career includes 36 Test matches, where he scored 1,613 runs, including four centuries, with a career-best of 117 in the 2019 Ashes series. He also featured in 97 ODIs, scoring 1,867 runs with one century and 11 fifties. In T20Is, he played 92 matches, accumulating 1,202 runs with a strike rate of 134.15.

With his vast experience in international cricket, Wade’s new role as an assistant coach will provide valuable expertise to the Gujarat Titans squad. As the team gears up for IPL 2025, the squad features several key players, including Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada, alongside the addition of Wade to the coaching staff.

The Gujarat Titans, under Wade’s mentorship, will be looking to continue building on their strong performances in the IPL and make a bid for further success in the upcoming season.
