March 30, 2025: In a thrilling match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Vizag, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc made history with his maiden five-wicket haul in T20 cricket, taking figures of 5/35 in just four overs. The performance, which helped DC secure a dominant victory, also included the prized scalp of explosive opener Travis Head.
After his remarkable outing, Starc, known for his sharp wit, shared a lighthearted moment with the broadcasters, recalling his ongoing rivalry with Head. “I think that’s why he doesn’t face the first ball anymore,” Starc quipped, referring to his impressive record against Head, having dismissed him six times in just 18 balls over eight innings. The Australian pacer has conceded only 34 runs in those 18 balls, making him Head’s nemesis in T20 cricket.

Starc’s performance against SRH was vital for DC, with the pacer emphasizing the importance of taking powerplay wickets to restrict a powerful SRH batting lineup. “We knew how powerful a side Sunrisers are. We knew powerplay wickets were key. All-round, it was a fantastic performance,” Starc said after the match.

As a veteran at 35, Starc reflected on his longevity in the format, stating, “I’m 35 and I’m not young, but I hope there is still a little life left. I’ve not played too much T20 cricket across those 15 years. I am an older one, so there is a chance to talk to the young guys, try and help where I can. I still enjoy my cricket, still love the competitive nature of it and that’s why I’m still playing.”

Starc’s performance in this IPL also made him the second bowler in DC’s history to claim a five-wicket haul in the tournament, joining Amit Mishra, who took 5/17 against Deccan Chargers in 2008.
