February 16, 2025: Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced the signing of Afghan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman as a replacement for Allah Ghazanfar, who has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to an injury, as confirmed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) official sources.
Mujeeb, renowned for his mystery spin and variety of deliveries, is one of Afghanistan’s most prominent cricketers. Having made his debut for Afghanistan at a young age, Mujeeb gained attention worldwide, particularly when he entered the IPL at just 17 years old. Over his career, he has played over 300 T20 matches in various domestic and international leagues, amassing nearly 330 wickets at an impressive economy rate of around 6.5.
With MI looking to strengthen their bowling attack, Mujeeb’s expertise, especially in the powerplay and middle overs, makes him an invaluable asset for the squad. His skill set will add significant depth to MI’s spin department, as the franchise looks to maintain their dominance in the competition.
While MI extended their best wishes to Ghazanfar for a speedy recovery, the team also welcomed Mujeeb into their squad, hoping that his experience and skill will contribute to a successful IPL season.
The 2025 IPL season is set to open with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22 at Eden Gardens. As the season progresses, Mujeeb’s performance will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
Meanwhile, the tournament will also witness high-octane matches such as the ‘El-Clasico’ between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23. The IPL 2025 will be played across 12 venues, including the home grounds of each franchise, along with additional venues for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The IPL 2025 season promises to be an exciting one, with new captains and revamped teams, setting the stage for another thrilling cricketing spectacle.
