April 8, 2025: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Nicholas Pooran achieved a major milestone in his IPL career by becoming the second-fastest player to score 2,000 runs in the tournament’s history.
Pooran reached this achievement during LSG’s match against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. His explosive innings helped LSG post an imposing total, with the West Indian batter finishing unbeaten on 87* off 36 balls, hammering seven fours and eight sixes.
Pooran’s knock was a standout performance, particularly his destruction of all-rounder Andre Russell, whom he took down for 24 runs in a single over. He struck two sixes and three fours off Russell, showcasing his power-hitting ability and reaffirming his status as one of the most dangerous batters in T20 cricket.
In 81 IPL matches, Pooran has scored 2,057 runs in 78 innings at an impressive average of 34.86 and a blistering strike rate of 168.88. His highest score in the tournament is an unbeaten 87*. With this achievement, Pooran now sits behind only Andre Russell, who took 1,120 balls to reach the 2,000-run mark. Pooran achieved this feat in 1,198 balls faced, making him the second-fastest player to reach this milestone.

Among Indian players, Virender Sehwag is the fastest to reach 2,000 IPL runs, doing so in 1,211 balls. Pooran’s consistency and aggressive approach have made him one of the most destructive batters in the IPL.
Currently, in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Pooran is in the form of his life. He leads the run-scoring charts with 288 runs in just five matches, averaging 72.00 with a scintillating strike rate of 225.00. Pooran has hit three half-centuries, with his best score being 87*. Additionally, he has smashed 24 sixes in the tournament, making him a key figure for LSG in their quest for the title.
Pooran’s IPL journey has seen stints with Punjab Kings from 2019-2021, where he accumulated 606 runs in 31 innings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 306 runs in 13 innings. However, it’s his time with Lucknow Super Giants that has seen Pooran elevate his game to new heights. In just 34 matches for LSG, Pooran has amassed 1,145 runs at an average of 47.70, with a strike rate exceeding 186 and eight half-centuries.
With Pooran in blistering form, LSG looks set to make a strong push for the IPL title this season, with the West Indian batter playing a key role in their success.
