The pacer’s match-winning spell of 2/18 seals GT’s first IPL 2025 win; Sudharsan’s fifty and disciplined bowling dismantle MI’s chase in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, March 30: Gujarat Titans (GT) opened their IPL 2025 account in style with a comprehensive 36-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI), riding on a sensational bowling spell by Prasidh Krishna, who finished with 2/18 and bagged the Player of the Match award.

Prasidh’s disciplined effort was pivotal in halting MI’s momentum during the chase of 197. His dismissals of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, both well-set at the time, decisively shifted the game in GT’s favor.

“Nothing much, I don’t really have any words right now,” said an emotional Prasidh during the post-match presentation. “It was the tenth over, and I was thinking I had not waited so long to bowl in a T20 game, but it paid off. Cutters into the wicket were working, and I just stuck to that plan.”

🔹 GT’s Solid Start with the Bat

After losing the toss, GT was put in to bat. Openers Shubman Gill (38) and Sai Sudharsan (63) built a strong 78-run partnership, setting the platform for a competitive total. Sudharsan continued his form with another half-century, supported by Jos Buttler’s quickfire 39 off 24.

Though GT was well-placed at 179/3, a sudden collapse saw them restricted to 196/8, as Hardik Pandya (2/29) and MI’s bowlers pulled things back in the death overs.

🔹 MI’s Chase Falters Despite SKY-Tilak Resistance

MI’s chase never found momentum, with Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton falling early. A 62-run stand between Tilak Varma (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (48) kept them in the hunt, but once both were dismissed—Prasidh’s breakthroughs sealing their fate—the innings crumbled.

MI ended at 160/6 in 20 overs, falling 36 runs short of the target.

🔹 Key Bowling Performers

  • Prasidh Krishna – 2/18
  • Mohammed Siraj – 2/34
  • Kagiso Rabada & Sai Kishore – 1 wicket each

MI’s bowlers included standout performances from Hardik and Trent Boult, but it was Gujarat’s bowling unit that shone brighter on the night.

With this win, GT improves their head-to-head against MI to 4-2 overall, maintaining a perfect 4-0 record at home in Ahmedabad. The Titans look to build on this momentum in the upcoming fixtures.
