May 4, 2025: Punjab Kings (PBKS) have signed Australian all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out for the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a broken finger, according to an IPL Media Advisory. Owen, hailing from Tasmania, has played 34 T20 matches, scoring 646 runs, including two centuries, and taking 10 wickets.
The Australian all-rounder joins PBKS for INR 3 Crore and will be a part of the squad as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
Brad Haddin Praises Young Talent and Team’s Momentum
Assistant Coach Brad Haddin addressed the press ahead of the match and expressed confidence in the team’s progress. “Our young guys are really starting to step up, and that’s been the most pleasing aspect so far. Of course, our senior players thrive in these high-pressure moments, but it’s the emerging talent that’s giving us real depth,” Haddin said.
PBKS currently sit second in the standings and are looking to capitalize on their momentum. Haddin noted the team’s improvements in recent games, particularly with the bat, and emphasized the importance of continuous growth as the tournament enters its final stages.
The bowling unit was also highlighted by Haddin for their strategic execution, especially with the new ‘Impact Player’ rule. “The bowlers deserve a lot of credit,” he said.
Strong Support in Dharamsala
Haddin also commented on the immense local support the team has received in Dharamsala, comparing it to the support they received in Mullanpur. “The love for our team here is just like it was back in Chandigarh,” he added.
Punjab Kings will face the Lucknow Super Giants at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on May 4.
