March 24, 2025; After delivering a match-winning performance for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, left-hand batter Rachin Ravindra expressed how special it is for him to open for the five-time IPL champions. Ravindra’s unbeaten knock of 65 runs from 45 balls, featuring four sixes and two boundaries, helped CSK post a competitive total. He scored at an impressive strike rate of 144.44 and batted until the final ball of CSK’s innings at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

In the post-match press conference, Ravindra reflected on the history of CSK’s opening batters, acknowledging the incredible legacy of players who have opened for the franchise. “A few days ago, I guess, and Flem’s [head coach Stephen Fleming] quite good at those comms. It’s always an honor to open for CSK knowing the history of it,” Ravindra said. He went on to mention legendary players like Michael Hussey, Shane Watson, Brendon McCullum, Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matthew Hayden, and Devon Conway, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with the role.

Ravindra expressed his gratitude for being given the chance and highlighted that it is a long tournament, with a focus on taking one game at a time. “I feel like I’m missing a few names there… But it’s certainly an honor. They have been guys who’ve done so well. I’m definitely grateful to be in this role. We’ll take it game by game,” Ravindra added.

As CSK looks to continue their campaign, Ravindra’s maturity and respect for the franchise’s history shine through, with the youngster playing a key role in their early success in IPL 2025.
